All In One

Now that Mumbai rains have ultimately arrived, the question arises are we prepared for the rains. Sad but true, is the fact that we have not learned from our past experiences and we are hopelessly unprepared for the rains. This year too the Mumbai MET dept has predicted the highest tide(around 5 metres) seen in Mumbai in 100years on July 24th 2009, which the BMC has confirmed that they are not prepared to handle when combined with the rainfall more than 25mm per hour. If this does happen the consequences would be disastrous, with heavy flooding – infact worse than the 26th July 2005 scene. People have been advised to stay in doors on the awaited day. There is no guarantee that the weather will worsen, but still it does sound like a better idea to stay indoors rather than be marooned somewhere during the weekend !!

Many of you must be wondering where I had disappeared.  I am back now with a more serious topic.

I am not sure why people are so fond of consuming tobacco in any form – be it pan, bidis, cigrattes, hukkas.

There was a time when one travels in public transport you find people smoking – though drinking was moslty undertaken in the closed confines of the house. There used to be signs “Smoking Prohibited”, but it ent unmonitored. Now the scenario is changing and smoking is being monitored. Smokers are heavily punished, if found, but in most cases the fine amount fills the pcoket of law-protector.

But still people who smoke or drink for that matter dont worry about the consequences. They are so much addicited to the habit, they have no rational thinking left and neither do tehy think about the effects it has on their near and dear ones.  People are aware of the perils fo smoking / drinking but still they persist.

Infact now-a-days, the younger generation have coined a new terminology – they dont smoke or drink regularly – only occasionally. So smoking / drinking say once/twice a week/fortnight (on a regular basis) is occasional??
